Ministers of the Word – Readers

When the Scriptures are read during the Liturgical Celebrations, we believe that God is speaking and Christ is Present in the Word proclaimed and in the Gospel we hear. Because the Holy Scripture is so important to us and makes up a principal element of the Mass and all of our liturgical worship, the role and duty of the Reader at Mass (sometimes called Lector) is of utmost importance.

Preparation of Readers is essential to the service rendered during our Liturgical celebrations. One’s preparation of necessity must be spiritual as well as technical. Its not only a matter of public reading, one must also have a sense of God’s word, spoken through the words that are read.

If you are a prayerful, committed fully initiated Catholic, who has the gift of oral reading, or perhaps you’ve never given it serious consideration, but you read well, please consider serving the parish community in this important role.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Our participation in the Liturgical Celebration of the Mass is a participation in the Supper of the Lord, in which we experience communion with one another and the Lord Jesus Christ, through the reception of the Eucharist. The whole celebration is an experience of Holy Communion for we gather in faith as members of the Body of Christ to remember and to break of the bread.

The role of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion is to serve the whole community during the communion rite, so as to preserve the unity of the Liturgical Celebration so that the length of time for the reception of the Sacrament is not out of proportion to the whole liturgy.

Some of our Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist regularly bring Holy Communion to members of our parish community who are sick and/or homebound. They visit our parishioners who cannot be present with us for our communal celebration of Sunday Mass. In a real sense, they represent all of us and making the connection of our union in Christ, through their visits, prayers and ministration of the gift of the Holy Eucharist.

Again, if you are a prayerful, committed fully initiated Catholic who wishes to serve the community as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion,
